KPK Answers Lino’s Charges

On January 19, 2016 the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) presented their side of the argument in the pre-trial of the Quay Container Crane (QCC) graft case involving the former President Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) (Pelindo II) Richard Joost Lino. The newly-elected Deputy Chairwoman of KPK Basaria Panjaitan was present at the hearing.

The Squabble Over KPK’s Armed Raid Continues

A political commotion has followed after the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Fahri Hamzah protested the manner in which the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted its raid in the Parliament building. KPK investigators raided several lawmakers offices in connection with the graft case involving PDI-P lawmaker Damayanti Wisnu Putranti. In the process of which, KPK investigators came with armed escorts from the Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob). Fahri found this to be insulting, and his antics in front of KPK investigators went viral on the internet. The leaders of the DPR sided with Fahri, and have reportedly demanded a session with the relevant authorities.

The Insolvency of Wirajaya Packindo

PT Wirajaya Packindo is officially bankrupt. The bankruptcy status should be accepted since the petition for an extension of time on the process of Suspension of Payment (PKPU) filed by the company was rejected by the creditors.

Lino’s Pre-Trial Continues

The first pretrial session on the handling of the graft case involving the former President Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) (Pelindo II) Richard Joost Lino was held at the South Jakarta District Court on January 18, 2016. Before the court, Lino expressed his confidence that he would win the case against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Constitutional Court’s Verdict on Post-Election Disputes

On Monday (Jan. 18), the Constitutional Court (MK) issued their verdict on 40 of the 147 post-election dispute lawsuits registered by participants of the 2015 simultaneous regional elections. The MK rejected 35 of said 40 lawsuits and granted the request from the plaintiffs to revoke 5 other lawsuits. So from now on to March 7, 2016 the MK will hear 107 post-election dispute lawsuits.

Shifting Terror Target?

The terror attack on Thamrin has left 8 dead (four suspects, and the rest civilian casualties). Fourteen civilians and 5 police officers were injured. The Police and security analysts suggested that the Thamrin terror attack was carried out by a terror cell related to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and that their target was a mix of government target and entities with foreign symbols.

The Verdict for the Former Regent of Empat Lawang

On January 14, 2016, the panel of judges of the Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced the former Regent of Empat Lawang Budi Antoni Aljufri and his wife Suzanna Budi Antoni to 4 years in prison and 2 years in prison respectively. Both are ordered to pay Rp150 million in fines. Budi and his wife was found guilty of bribing the former Chairman of Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar.

Regarding Armed Raids

In a move to investigate the allegations of bribery in a project managed by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen-PUPR), the investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a raid in 3 locations simultaneously on January 15, 2016. But a raid in one particular location was met with some resistance.

Budi Mulya and the Bank Century Case

The Supreme Court (MA) submitted the copy of the verdict of the corruption case involving the former Deputy of Bank Indonesia (BI) for Monetary and Foreign Exchange Management Division Budi Mulya to the Central Jakarta District Court and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on December 23, 2015. And now, it’s up to the KPK on whether to continue their development of the Bank Century case.

Jusuf Kalla in Defense of Jero Wacik

Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) once again went before the court to answer the summon he received. This time, JK is present at the Jakarta Corruption Court in his capacity as a witness in a corruption case involving the former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik. JK was presented before the Court in defense of Jero.
