Ministry of industry plans to issue new regulation, which basically strictening requirements for new investments in cement industry to solve the increasing oversupply. Semen Indonesia (SMGR), the largest cement producer, however, expects its expansion won’t be halted because its factories are now running at full capacity.

The government and House Commission XI have agreed on capital injection of Rp47.15 trillion (US$3.62 billion) for state companies in the State Budget 2017. Most of the funds will flow into infrastructure projects, including financing of land acquisition.

Strong Third Quarter for Arwana Ceramic
PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk (ARNA), one of the largest ceramic producers in Indonesia, reported strong results in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2016. Its sales revenue grew 25%, while net profit jumped to Rp16 billion from less than one billion rupiah in the corresponding period of 2015. The Company’s data showed significant movement in markets outside Java, pretty much mirroring cement sales data.
Key Highlights from September Trade Stats
Indonesia booked trade surplus of US$1.22 billion last month, an increase of 18.1% year-on-year, but mostly due to 2.3% decline in import. While the trade surplus supports rupiah, September data suggests lacklustre domestic demand and investments.
