A geothermal specialist company from the United States, Ormat Technologies (Ormat) is attracted to the investment opportunity with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). Through PT Ormat Geothermal Indonesia, Ormat is negotiating with PLN regarding the possibility of forming a joint venture (JV) to work on the Atedai geothermal working area (WKP) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Songa Wayaua in South Halmahera.

Ormat Technologies Indonesia Technical Director Remi Harimanda said that his party was interested in entering the two geothermal blocks because of the attractive electricity rates. Meanwhile, the cooperation scheme offered by PLN is the Geothermal Exploration and Energy Conversion Agreement (GEECA). The principle of this scheme is risk sharing where in the exploration phase, partners will be responsible for drilling activities including existing risks.

Meanwhile, PLN will handle settlements related to permits, land acquisition and construction of drilling supporting infrastructure, including managing risks related to social issues.
