Halmahera Utara (Halut) or North Halmahera in North Maluku is the home to Gosowong gold mine, one of the largest gold mines in Indonesia, which was controlled by ASX-listed Newcrest Mining Ltd (later sold to Indonesian business people) and IDX-listed Aneka Tambang (ANTM) through PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM).
