Russia’s economy shrank by 4.1% year-on-year in September of 2022, compared with market expectations of a 4.8% decline. It was the fifth consecutive month of economic downturn, amid weaker domestic demand due to the fallout from the war with Ukraine and associated international sanctions. Considering the January-August period of 2022, the economy decreased by 1.5% compared to the same period a year ago.
