PPP: Leadership Change & Internal Conflict
Suharso Monoarfa has been dismissed from his position as the chairman of the Islamic party PPP. Muhammad Mardiono, a member of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s Advisory Council (Wantimpres), has been appointed as the acting chairman of PPP replacing Suharso. This dynamic is worth highlighting in light of the 2024 race even though PPP is the smallest member of Jokowi’s ruling coalition in the House of Representatives (DPR). Not to mention, PPP is an Islamic party that is strongly affiliated with the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia.
