Golden Energy and Resources Ltd (GEAR), a company controlled by Sinarmas Group, posted net profit of US$279 million in the first half ended June 30, 2022, skyrocketed 859% from US$29 million only in the corresponding period last year thanks to higher average price of both thermal and metallurgical coal.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has just signed Government Regulation (GR) No. 26/2022 to amend GR No. 81/2019 about non-tax revenues in energy and mineral resources sector. The new regulation significantly increases royalty on coal produced by those operating under the mining business permit (IUP) regime from a maximum of 7% to 13.5%. Some companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) will be substantially affected.
