Foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia jumped 499.01 percent year-on-year to 111.06 thousand in April 2022, boosted by further easing of COVID-19 restrictions and an introduction of visa free visits for tourists from Southeast Asian countries as the government seeks to revive the tourism industry to further support the country’s economic recovery from the pandemic. The number of arrivals by air in Bali, the center of the Indonesian tourism industry, surged 647,844 percent to 58.32 thousand, and those reaching Jakarta climbed 133.09 percent to 36.06 thousand. In addition, the number of arrivals by ship in Batam soared 4,159 percent to 8.14 thousand.
