The Movie Business

The movie business in Indonesia is continuing to grow. According to filmindonesia.or.id, by the end of 2017 there were 263 theatres making a total of 1412 screens. Recently, the Boss of Indonesia’s Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Triawan Munaf told journalists that the number of screens had gone up to nearly 1700 this year. The portion of Indonesian films to imported films has also grown to 40 percent.

Global equity markets gave up earlier gains and continued a weeklong sell-off on Wednesday (Dec. 19) after the United States (U.S.) Federal Reserve (the Fed) announced a fresh interest rate hike and said “some” further rate hikes would be necessary for the year ahead, Reuters reported.

Revisiting Energi Mega

Oil and gas services firm Energi Mega Persada (ENRG), a member of Bakrie Group, suffered a loss of US$14.67 million in Jan-Sep 2018 period (9M), against profit US$86.91 million in the same period of last year. Its profit in 9M of the previous year was mainly from the gain of tax amnesty (US$162.3 million). ENRG made no gain on tax amnesty in 9M of this year.
