The friction between the Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama—who will run as an incumbent independent candidate in the 2017 gubernatorial election—and political parties heats up. Political party factions in the House of Representatives (DPR) has recently proposed changing the minimum support threshold for an independent candidate to be able to qualify in regional elections.
