By passing the Government Regulations in Lieu of Law (Perppu) 1/2014 and 2/2014 into law, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) had returned to the Indonesian people their right to directly elect their respective regional leaders. The passage of both Perppus also laid the groundwork for he government to conduct regional elections simultaneously. The first of such simultaneous rounds of regional elections is supposed begin this year (2015), but that plan looks increasingly unlikely to happen as the DPR is still in the process of revising the regional elections law (UU Pilkada).To subscribe please click here
