Efforts mounted in the past at toppling Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie from his leadership of Golkar have all failed to succeed. This is interesting given the intensity of criticism that Ical has had to face in the past few years. Ical has been labeled undemocratic by his contenders. And some of his partymen consider him a loser for failing to deliver on his promises. For instance, when campaigning for his chairmanship back in 2009, Ical promised to deposit of Rp1 trillion into the party’s coffer, a promise that he has not been able to fulfill.
