The Gemawan Institute is a non-governmental organization focused on handling land conflict in West Kalimantan. The NGO was established in 1999 by Hermawansyah—a former student activist from the University of Tanjungpura, Pontianak—as a corruption watchdog, but as time passed, the Gemawan Institute found that land conflicts were the cases that directly impact the life of the local community.
