Foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia declined by 2.03% year-on-year to 1.38 million in December 2019. The number of visitors dropped in both Jakarta (-17.7% to 186.7 thousand) and Batam (-18.41% to 190.23 thousand). In contrast, tourist arrivals in Bali resort island, the center of Indonesian tourism industry, expanded 9.9% to 544.7 thousand. Tourists came mostly from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Considering the whole 2019, the number of tourist arrivals rose by 1.88% to 16.11 million, less than the government’s target of 20 million but slightly up from 15.81 million in 2018.
