Indonesia’s annual inflation rate declined to 2.68% in January 2020 from 2.72% in the previous month, the lowest inflation rate since March last year, as prices rose softer for: housing & utilities (1.60% vs 1.75% in December 2019); transportation, communication & financial services (0.05% vs 0.17%); clothing (2.42% vs 4.93%).

Meantime, inflation was steady for prepared food, beverages, cigarette & tobacco (at 3.97%). On the other hand, prices increased faster for: foodstuff (4.31% vs 4.28%); education, recreation & sport (3.81% vs 3.25%), and health (3.87% vs 3.46%). Annual core inflation fell to 2.88%, the lowest since September last year, below forecasts of 3%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.39% in January, the highest since June, after a 0.34% gain in the prior month.
