Revisiting Petro Energy

Established seven years ago, Petro Energy Group has grown into a more significant energy player in the country. The company claimed itself as one of the three largest importers and suppliers of fuel in Indonesia. The coal mining subsidiary, meanwhile, is set to benefit from strong prices of the commodity.

Sandiaga & Campaign Funding Commitment

Both the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) denied of receiving Rp500 billion each from Sandiaga Uno as compensation for allowing him to become running mate of Prabowo Subianto. Sandiaga considered the said ‘dowry’ a commitment to finance campaign (legislative?), while politicians from Democratic Party led by Indonesia’s sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) refused to drop their allegations. More anti-graft organizations, in the meantime, mount pressures to the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to investigate the case. Say that the combined Rp1 trillion will eventually come out of Sandiaga’s pocket, how would he do that?

People on The Move

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has received three names of the Constitutional Court (MK) justice candidates from the selection committee. Pretty much as predicted, all of the said three candidates are female law experts. Therefore whomever the President choose as a new MK justice to replace Maria Farida Indrati, Jokowi can maintain female representation in the MK. And considering Maria will soon end her term as MK justice by August 13, President Jokowi will likely choose one among the three candidates as Maria’s replacement and to sworn in the replacement within the next few days.

Maher Algadri: Business & Politics

Leader of political parties supporting nomination of Prabowo Subianto as president candidate in 2019 race attended a coordination meeting at the private residence of Maher Algadri Tuesday night. While not a surprise, because Maher is listed in the board of Gerindra Party based on the list of party officers submitted, and verified by ministry of law and human rights, this is still an interesting topic ahead of the election. Who is Maher?

Cash-Rich Groups & Political Financing (3)

Property business might have been under pressure in the past few years, but those diversified business groups are currently sitting over huge cash. They will continue to be the main financiers of next year’s legislative and presidential election.

Emir Satar’s Wife Passes Away…

Sandrina Abubakar, wife of Emirsyah Satar, former president director of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia (GIAA), passed away Wednesday (Aug 1) afternoon. Condolences to Pak Emir, of course. It’s been difficult years for him, especially after named as corruption suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in early 2017.

Clowns of the 21st Century (2)

One is busy looking for a ticket to become president candidate, while the other is busy with discussions surrounding vice president candidate for the likely president candidate. One is busy with lipbalm, the other with his endlessly whining mouth. It is unfortunate that we will have to live with these clowns for more than four years more.

Jokowi’s Likely Running Mate: Mar’uf Amin

We have long speculated on Mar’uf Amin, chairman of The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), as potential running mate for incumbent president Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo. Shortly after devastating loss of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in Jakarta election, Jokowi switched gear to accommodate more Islam narratives. Jokowi has since been seen frequently in public with Mar’uf.

Clowns of 21st Century: Anies & Sandi

So, Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan blamed his predecessors for not paying attention to cleaning up Kali Item. The governor also blamed national media for reporting the city administration’s way of handling the stinky river, which then picked up by international media. Basically Anies believes that international media simply translated reports of national media. Don’t be surprised to see seas of negative comments from readers. They agree that Anies and his deputy Sandiaga Uno are clowns of the 21st century….
