On Joker’s Case: Trial on the Bribery Case
Joko Tjandra’s appearance several months ago led to investigations on three new cases, two of which are investigated by the POLRI. The cases are forgery and obstruction of justice. The other case is a bribery case. Last month the East Jakarta District Court conducted parallel examinations of three defendants for alleged forgery and obstruction of justice. The defendants are Joko Tjandra, advocate Anita Kolopaking, and Brigadier General (Pol) Prasetijo Utomo. On Nov. 2, 2020, the trials on the bribery case started. In this case, the defendants are Joko Tjandra, Prasetijo and Inspector General (Pol) Napoleon Bonaparte, and one Tommy Sumardi.

A week ago the most awaited trial of the year finally started. The East Jakarta District Court began parallel examinations of three defendants for letter forgery and obstruction of justice related to efforts in assisting Joko Tjandra’s escape from punishment. The defendants are Joko Tjandra himself, advocate Anita Kolopaking, and Brigadier General (Pol) Prasetijo Utomo. During the hearings held on October 20, 2020, the defendants read their objections. It is not a surprise that they refuse to admit to the allegations.

On Oct 6, 2020, Attorney General’s Office (AGO) named Maryono, former CEO of state mortgage Bank Tabungan Negara (BBTN), a bribery suspect. As of yesterday, AGO has only revealed bribery committed by two debtors of the bank.

On Joker’s Case: Pre-Trial and Progress
Over a month ago POLRI announced new suspects in two different but related cases regarding Joko Tjandra’s attempt to avoid the law. The first inquisition is on the alleged forgery to help Joko Tjandra travel in and out of Indonesia. The second inquisition is on a case of corruption, as Joko Tjandra, with the help of several people, had allegedly paid for extra assistance. There are six suspects in the cases, apart from the suspect named in the case investigated by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). Among the suspects is Inspector General (Pol) Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon filed for a pre-trial lawsuit a couple of weeks ago questioning his legal status. The trial started this week. Meanwhile, the inquisition process on the alleged forgery had been completed. The dockets were handed over to the East Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office.
AT Suharya passes away
Athanasius Tossin Suharya (Yo Tae Siang), popular as AT Suharya, has passed away on Saturday (Sep 19) at 77 years old in Singapore. AT Suharya is founder of Baramulti, one of major business groups in Indonesia with interest in coal industry. He leaves behind three children and seven grandchildren.
On Joker’s Case: Where Are We Now?
The September 12, 2020 edition of TEMPO Magazine published several investigative reports related to the examinations of bribery related to Joko Tjandra. TEMPO claims that it has the examination documents in the inquisition process for suspect Pinangki Sirna Malasari, who at the time of the incident is a Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). The reports also conveyed some information regarding other suspects and various details of the plans made by the parties and those who are suspected of providing assistance to Joko, including conglomerate Surya Darmadi. Surya Darmadi is now listed as a fugitive and wanted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). In general, the TEMPO report connects several missing links, but there are still many obscure questions.
