South Sumatra police examined Heryanti, youngest daughter of the late Akidi Tio, related to the controversial Rp2 trillion ‘donation’. Police officers came up with conflicting statement about status of Heryanti in the case. Some said that she has been named suspect, but others later on dismissed that saying Heryanti needs to regularly report to the police.

Judgment day! The Rp2 trillion ‘donation’ from the late Akidi Tio is set to be transferred from ‘offshore’ accounts today. Questions surrounding the money have slowly been answered, but triggered more questions. 

On Joker’s Case: High Court and the Controversial Appeals

Last month the Panel of Appeal of the Jakarta High Court surprised the nation when it granted the petition filed by former prosecutor Pinangki Sirna Malasari, a graft convict who supposedly helped Joko Soegiarto Tjandra to escape the law. Pinangki’s sentence was reduced from ten years to only four years imprisonment. To make matters worse, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) decided not to file any cassation. This week, the High Court gave another surprise. It eased Joko Tjandra’s sentence. Four of the five members of the Panel of Appeal in the Joko Tjandra case are the same high court judges who previously reduced Pinangki’s sentence.

Media reported today that the house of Heryanti, daughter of the late Akidi Tio (who surprised many Indonesians with his Rp2 trillion donation), in Palembang, South Sumatra province is now guarded by police officials.

On Monday, July 26, prof dr Hardi Darmawan, family doctor of the late Akidi Tio, handed over Rp2 trillion of cash to help South Sumatra province in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. The US$140 million donation is part of Mr Tio’s last will to his family. It sparked nationwide Google search on Mr Tio’s background. Most of all, it triggered questions among Indonesians about richer and richest conglomerates in the country.

Paiman Mak passes away

Paiman Mak, chairman of Indonesian Association for Religion and Culture (IARC) and chairman of Asia Pacific Bonsai & Suiseki (ASPAC), passed away in Depok, West Java province last Thursday. Mr Mak is known for his role in promoting Indonesia-China relationship. Last May, secretary general of Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI) Amirsyah Tambunan gave Mr Mak an award for his role as ambassador of friendship between Indonesian moslems and China.

Businessman Henry Soetio (49 years old), known for his lifestyle and friendship with high-profile politicians, has passed away this week from Covid-19. Henry, who collects tens of luxury cars, leaves behind some companies involved in the coal mining business.

Sugiharto, former minister of state-owned enterprises and former chairman of state oil and gas company Pertamina, has passed away in Jakarta on Thursday (July 15).

Kayo Salim, founder of Fikasa Group—-used to own substantial shares in PT Miwon Indonesia (MSG player), has just passed away in Jakarta at 86. He leaves behind four children, including two sons who have interest in some companies listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).
