Shares of plantation company Astra Agro Lestari (AALI), subsidiary of Astra International (ASII), ended slightly higher to Rp5,950 on Thursday (Feb 20) to make a market capitalisation of Rp11.5 trillion, not even half of the company’s equity. 

The implementation of the Coretax system in Indonesia’s tax reform continues to draw criticism. Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has even urged President Prabowo Subianto to audit the system. This audit request stems from Indonesia’s stagnant tax ratio of 10 percent, indicating that the tax system has not yet been able to optimize state revenue. Ideally, Coretax was expected to enhance tax administration efficiency and taxpayer compliance. However, this situation raises a fundamental question: is Coretax truly effective in boosting state revenue, or does it instead pose structural weaknesses that hinder tax optimization?

The structure of Danantara is not entirely clear yet, but Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan (the President’s special advisor), whose nephew Pandu Sjahrir is said leader of the new super agency, has already talked about Danantara’s joint venture with UAE company to develop 10,000 MW renewable energy project.
