In Indonesia, the right to life is guaranteed under Art. 28A of the 1945 Constitution, it reads: “Everyone has the right to live and to defend life and their livelihood.” But there are exceptions, such as when one is found guilty of performing certain acts of crime worthy of capital punishment.

The end for @Triomacan2000?

The administrators of the notorious Twitter account @Triomacan2000 was recently tried on March 23, 2015 in the District Court of South Jakarta on account of extortion. All three administrators, Edi Syahputra, Harry Koes Hardjono, and Raden Nuh were named suspect of extortion following the report filed by Abdul Satar, the Director of PT. Tower Bersama Infrastructure Group (TBIG).

The Ministry of Law & Human Rights Payment Gateway Case

The Corruption Directorate of the Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) named the former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana a graft suspect related to the procurement of electronic passport service, better known as the payment gateway developed and operated by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in July 2014. Andi Syamsul Bahri was the person who reported Denny Indrayana to the Police on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 with the report number LP/166/2015/Bareskrim.

Hope in Satgassus P3TPK

The performance of the Special Task Force on the Management and Settlement of Corruption Case (Satgassus P3TPK) will be evaluated soon. This new Attorney General Office task force is still relatively unknown creating concerns on its influence in the effort of corruption eradication and its relation to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Fire Safety System in Indonesia

The Jakarta Police Forensic Unit (Tim Labfor) continues to investigate the cause of the fire that engulfed Wisma Kosgoro on March 9, 2015. The fire spread to five levels and broke the record of the longest skyscraper fire in Asia—the blaze lasted for 14 hours. The incident immediately sparked discussions on fire safety system in Jakarta’s high rises.

H.M. Prasetyo’s appointment as Attorney General earned the spotlight mostly because of his background as a politician of the National Democrat (Nasdem) party. Many saw his as political gift from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to Nasdem for the party’s political support. Many saw Prasetyo lacking in competence, but he had since answered his detractors by saying that he would commit to change. Prasetyo may actually mean what he said. From the beginning of 2015, the AGO has detained and executed several suspects and convicts in various cases.
