KPK’s Search for Secretary General
In March 2018 the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)—with the approval of the President—dismissed their Secretary General one Raden Bimo Gunung Abdul Kadir. The KPK said that Bimo’s performance was not up to their expectations. To this day, however, the KPK has not yet appointed a replacement. Presently there are six candidates for the position. They were interviewed on January 7, 2019. The KPK must choose the three best candidates from the said pool, and report back to the President. The President will have the final say.

The House of Representatives (DPR) commence their deliberation session today (Jan. 7) after a long end of year recess. They will deliberate on the 55 legislations set in the 2019 priority list until February 13, after which they will enter a recess period that lasts until March 3.
Measured Expectations on Agrarian Affairs
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo boasted on the achievement of his administration to issue over nine million land titles in 2018, well beyond the target of seven million land titles to be issued in the said year. The President should indeed be proud, but he said something else that would’ve been best left unsaid.
Bad Start of the Year for DGIK
The Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court have declared PT Duta Graha Indah (now PT Nusa Konstruksi Enjiniring Tbk, otherwise identified in the IDX as DGIK) guilty of corruption. DGIK was ordered to pay a fine of Rp700 million. The Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court also ordered the Company to pay Rp85 billion as compensation. In addition to that, DGIK cannot enter any government procurement process for the next six months. Failure to pay the demanded fine and compensation would result in seizure of assets.
Another Graft Case Involving PUPR
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been working hard to close the year 2018. In the evening of Friday Dec. 28, the KPK held a sting operation at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). By Sunday Dec. 30, the KPK held a press conference and said that they had named eight graft suspects.
Indonesian Football Fraud
National police arrested Johar Lin Eng, member of the executive committee of Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) in the score manipulation scandal. Two other members of the committee are also said involved in the match-fixing scandal, which makes Indonesian football even worse.
KPK’s 2018: Garuda Indonesia and Rolls-Royce
The investigation into the allegation of corruption in PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) involving the UK-based engineering company Rolls-Royce began in 2017. Nevertheless, despite having named two suspects, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not made any significant progress.
KPK’s 2018: The Bank Century Bailout Case
In the Bank Century bailout case is arguable one of the biggest corruption case, full of theories that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating. The Bailout caused the State over Rp8 trillion in financial losses. To this day, the KPK has only managed to bring the former Deputy of Bank Indonesia (BI) for Monetary and Foreign Exchange Management Division one Budi Mulya to justice. The owner of Bank Century Robert Tantular, meanwhile, was snared with four different charges.
