PT Nippon Indosari Corporindo Tbk (ROTI), market leader for bread, has just kicked off the issuance of 1.124 billion new shares at Rp1,275 per share to raise Rp1.43 trillion of funds from shareholders. Most of the proceeds will be used to finance the company’s expansion programs.

More than 27 million Indonesians lack safe water, and that 51 million lack access to improved sanitation facilities, according to water.org. Lack of access to clean water supply hit some regions in Indonesia frequently. This year, according to data from National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), more than 3.9 million people living in 2,726 villages in 715 subdistricts and 105 districts/cities in Java and Nusa Tenggara have to deal with severe drought. To address the problem, the Jokowi-JK administration initiated construction of 65 dams in the period of 2015-2019, where 29 dams are expected to be completed.

Shares of Minna Padi Investama Sekuritas (PADI) soared 8.19% Wednesday (Sept 27) as investors got confirmation about PADI’s plan to subscribe new shares of sharia bank Muamalat for Rp4.5 trillion. Upon completion of the transaction, PADI will control 51% of the enlarged share capital of Muamalat, pioneer of sharia banking in Indonesia.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo is famous with his ambitious 35,000 MW program to be built in five years time. Most of the power plants will not be ready when he entered 2019 elections, the president has aggressively boosted electrification ratio of the country. The ratio was 84.35% when he entered the office in late 2014, but now energy and mineral resources ministry claims of 92.8%.

Pacific Star + Aguan/Salim in PIK-2

Pacific Star Development Limited, an Asean-focused developer listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), has signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Kukuh Mandiri Lestari—a JV between Agung Sedayu Group (one of the largest property developers in Jakarta) and Salim Group—for the development of mixed-use high rise developments in Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 (PIK-2), Jakarta.

Jokowi’s Scorecard (2): Mass Transportation

Central Bureau of Statistics recorded 220.7 million train passengers in the first seven months of 2017, an increase of 10.03% from the corresponding period last year. That means only around 1 million passengers per day, of which 80% in the greater Jakarta railway system. The greater Jakarta system reported 10.23% growth, while Java outside greater Jakarta increased only by 8.51%. Sumatra system reported impressive growth of 17.72%, but very small compared to its total population.

Jokowi’s Scorecard: Toll Road

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has on Monday (Sept 25) inaugurated commercial operation of section III (Bawen-Salatiga) of the Semarang-Solo toll road. The 17.7-KM toll road is the seventh entering commercial operation since early last year. The chance is high to see commercial operation of around 200 KM of new toll roads, whose constructions started under Jokowi administration, to match his predecessor’s 10 years of government.

Weaker Second Quarter for Chandra Asri

PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (TPIA), the largest petrochemical company in Indonesia, booked net profit of US$174.2 million in the first half ended June 30, 2017, an increase of 32% from the corresponding period last year. In the second quarter, however, the Company booked net profit of US$66.4 million only, dropped significantly from US$107.7 million in the first quarter.

Harvesting Time: Toll Road (2)

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate commercial operation of two sections of Medan-Binjai and five sections of Medan-Kualanamu-Tebing Tinggi toll roads this month with total length of 52 KM. They will become the second and third toll road in operation in Sumatra Island after Belawan-Medan-Tanjung Morawa (34 KM), which was built by Soeharto administration in 1986.

Bridging The Nation

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has been criticized by his opponents for inaugurating the small iron suspension bridges in some areas. Jokowi, however, opted to ignore them. On Monday, the president inaugurated two new suspension bridges named Krinjing (90-meter) and Mangunsuko (120-meter) in Magelang regency, Central Java province.
