Bakrie Sumatra Plantations (UNSP) is probably the only palm oil producer with significant net loss last year arguably on huge debt and financial charges. The Company reported sales revenue of Rp2.64 trillion, bigger than Sawit Sumbermas (SSMS), which is now a company worth US$1.5 billion. UNSP, meanwhile, is worth US$50 million only.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo is expected to sign a new policy imposing a levy of US$50 per ton of crude palm oil (CPO) this week. Processed palm oil products will also subject to US$30 per ton of such export levy. Malaysian, meanwhile, reimposes export duty of 4.5% on CPO, which might help cooking oil, oleochemical, and palm oil derivative producers.
