The Jakarta International School Case

The trial for the sexual abuse case of a 5 year-old Jakarta International School kindergarten student started on August 26 at the South Jakarta District Court. The five suspects tried are the school’s outsourced janitors from PT Integrated Service Solution (ISS), namely, Afrischa Ayani, Zainal Abidin; Virgiawan Amin Bin Suparman; Syahrial and also Agun Iskandar. The five suspects are assisted by a team of lawyers that include Saut Irianto Rajaguguk of Saut Raj & Partners Law firm and also Patra M Zen, the former chairman of the Indonesian Legal Foundation (YLBHI), who was once the lawyer of Hartati Murdaya Poo.

Suspect Jero Wacik

A few hours ago, the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held a press conference and made the announcement that, as per their letter of investigation dated Sep. 2, 2014, a man with the initial JW was officially named suspect in a graft case at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The initial is reportedly that of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik.

Legislative Update: A New Trade Law?

The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI held a jointly held press conference with the Minister of Trade yesterday (Jan. 29) to announce their agreement to pass the trade bill next week on February 6, 2014. The bill will replace the 1934 law on trade (Bedrijfsreglementerings Ordonnatie 1934) and will unite substances previously regulated under separate laws, such as domestic and international trade, small-medium business empowerment, products and services standardization, electronic commerce, and more.

Legislative Update: A New State Aparatus Law

On January 15, 2014, the President signed into law the much anticipated bill on State Civil Aparatus (ASN) passed by the DPR December last year. Law No. 5/2014 outlined the management of civil service, covering aspects such as formation of jobs and assessment of needs; recruitment; ranks and positions; career pattern; promotion; transfers of employees; performance evaluation; wages and allowances; rewards; disciplin; termination of employment; pension and retirement savings; and employee protections. It’s a law that will revamp the Indonesian civil service, and hopefully change the delivery of public service.
