After a long investigation process, nine top officials of private sugar companies—who are reportedly actively involved in the case of alleged manipulation of sugar imports—finally faced an indictment hearing towards the end of last week. Overall, the defendants are said to have caused State losses of more than Rp570 billion, but there is something more interesting about this initial hearing. In addition to dragging the former Minister of Trade, Thomas Trikasih “Tom” Lembong, interestingly, the indictment also mentions the name of Enggartiasto Lukita, the Minister who served after Tom and a NasDem politician. This is not surprising for us, but still needs to be addressed.
