Three years ago, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry sue PT Rambang Agro Jaya (PT RAJ) to force the company into taking responsibility for forest fires that occurred on 500 hectares of company’s concession in Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatera. The Panel of Judges decided in favor of the Ministry in January 2021, then the company appealed and filed cassation. The Supreme Court, however, decided to upheld the district court decision. PT RAJ is a subsidiary of Malaysia-based Kulim Berhad.
