The 2015 International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Report shows that the 2014 global music industry generated a revenue of 6.85 billion USD. Interestingly enough, 46 percent (3.15 billions USD) of the revenue came from digital sales. The report states that this is the first time whereby the digital sales reached the same figure of physical retailing sales. Digital sales has continued to increase since 2009 by approximately 4 to 7 percent per year.
