Cabinet members have repeatedly downplayed potential mass layoffs after the implementation of export ban on mineral ores came into effect January 12, 2014. Reports from various regions in the country, however, confirmed mass layoffs by hundreds of miners, especially those producing nickel, bauxite, iron ore, and iron sands.
