The Baltic Dry Index edged up for the second session to 1,207 on Monday, mainly due to stronger rates for the capesize vessel segment. The capesize index, which tracks iron ore and coal cargos rose 2.9% to 1,790. In contrast, the panamax index, which measures coal or grain cargos fell 0.8% to 1,181, its lowest since July 29th and the supramax index eased 8 points to 893. The Baltic index lost 6.9% in the first week of November, the fifth straight weekly decline due to both the capesize index (-8.8%) and the panamax index (-6.2%).
