Asian stock markets closed mixed on Friday as a lack of progress in trade talks between the US and China weighed on sentiment. Tech stocks gained while bank and industrial shares were among the worst performers.

The Nikkei 225 climbed 0.9%, to 22,602; the Shanghai Composite index added 0.2%, to 2,729; and the Kospi rose 0.5%, to 2,293. On the other hand, the S&P/ASX 200 closed near the flat line after Australia’s ruling party chose Treasurer Scott Morrison to replace Malcolm Turnbull as prime minister.

The Hang Seng dropped 0.5%, to 27,655. Composite index of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) also closed down 0.24% at 5968.
