The rupiah passed the psychological boundary of Rp14,000 per U.S. dollar for the first time since December 2015, as it was traded at Rp14,036 on Tuesday (May 8). Significant pressures on the rupiah should suggest that Bank Indonesia would be prepared to raise its benchmark interest rate at the May policy meeting.
