Tourist arrivals in Indonesia declined by 5.77% from a year earlier to 902,602 persons in December of 2017. That compared to 957,828 in the same month af the prior year. Amid ongoing threat from Mount Agung volcano, the number of regular tourists visited Bali slumped by 29.83% year-on-year to 307,321. 

On the other hand, foreign visitors coming to Jakarta grew by 11.27% to 215,450, followed by those to Batam (21.04% to 192,796). Considering full 2017, tourist arrivals grew by 12.16% to 11.47 million persons, down slightly from 11.52 million in 2016. The government aims to attract 20 million visitors a year by 2019.
