Data from ministry of forestry and environmental affairs pointed to 25,000 out of 72,000 villages in Indonesia are located within and surrounding forest area. Around 48 people live there, of which 10 million fall below the poverty line. Reform movement in 1998 led to opening up of the so-called Legal Access for local community to manage forest area. Implementation of social forestry program was finally started in 2007, but scored limited success.To subscribe please click here
