Vice President Jusuf Kalla noted that investment in renewable energy, including geothermal, needed support mainly in the form of simplification of procedures and regulations. Fossil fuel can no longer be the only energy source given the growth in demand for electricity. The Government targets renewable energy to reach 23% in contribution of national energy need by 2025. Geothermal potential reaches 28,579 MW consisting of total reserves of 17,506 MW and total resources of 11,073 MW. Currently, the installed geothermal power plant (PLTP) reaches 1,698.5 MW or 5.9% of total potential of power plant.
