Prabowo-Paloh Meeting: Forget about Strengthening Opposition?
The President-elect Prabowo Subianto met with media mogul Surya Paloh, the chairman of Nasdem Party. Many believe that the meeting is a strong signal that Paloh will likely bring Nasdem to join Prabowo’s administration. Let’s talk a bit about this meeting.
Legal Battle Begins
The two losing presidential candidates, Ganjar-Mahfud and Anies-Muhaimin, have registered a post-election lawsuit at the Constitutional Court (MK). Both of them are asking the Court to disqualify Gibran and order a re-election. Will the MK grant their lawsuit or rule in favor of Prabowo-Gibran instead?
Paloh’s State of Relationship with Anies
Media mogul Surya Paloh, who is the chairman of Nasdem Party, recently made a remark on the results of the 2024 presidential and legislative elections announced by the General Election Commission (KPU). Paloh’s remark is worth highlighting, especially in regard to his state of relationship with Anies Baswedan, one of the losing presidential candidates in 2024 race.
Agus Gumiwang, Jokowi & Golkar Dynamics
Minister of Industry Affairs Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, one of deputy chairmen of Golkar Party, was among the ministers who accompanied President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to watch a World Cup qualifying match between Indonesia and Vietnam at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium last night (Mar. 21). Agus’ presence alongside the President is worth highlighting in relation to the dynamics within Golkar Party ahead of its upcoming chairmanship congress.
PPP’s Failure & Sandiaga’s Future
In a stark contrast to the National Awakening Party (PKB), the United Development Party (PPP) fails to pass parliamentary threshold and therefore the Party may be excluded from the House of Representatives (DPR) if the Constitutional Court (MK) upholds the final results of the 2024 legislative election announced by the General Election Commission (KPU). The failure of PPP leads us to a question on the future of Sandiaga Uno. So, let’s talk a bit about PPP and Sandi.
Jokowi’s Son Party Fails to Pass Threshold
Last night, Mar. 20, the General Election Commission (KPU) has announced Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is the eldest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, as the winners of the 2024 presidential election. The KPU also announced the final results of the 2024 legislative election, in which PSI, a small party led by Jokowi’s youngest son Kaesang Pangarep, failed to pass parliamentary threshold.
MK: The Battle Within
The Constitutional Court (MK) will soon adjudicate post-election disputes of the 2024 presidential and legislative elections. Before the legal battle begins, however, we should also highlight the battle within the MK itself since the MK’s Ethics Council (MKMK) are now handling new reports of ethics violation allegation against some of the constitutional justices.
Post-Election Clash
An unavoidable clash happened in front of the Parliament compound on Tuesday (Mar. 19), when protesters were reluctant to be dissolved by police officers. The protesters urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to use its inquiry right (Hak Angket) for investigating election fraud in 2024 race and they called for an impeachment on President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Golkar: Political Battle to Watch
Airlangga Hartarto, the chairman of Golkar Party, ensures that Golkar will hold its chairmanship congress in December 2024. The biggest question is whether Airlangga can win his re-election in the upcoming congress or someone else will take over Golkar’s leadership.
Jakarta’s 2024 Gubernatorial Election (3)
Last night, Mar. 18, the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Legislative Body (Baleg) and the Central Government agreed to bring the Bill on the special status of Jakarta (DKJ), which regulates the Jakarta governor and vice governor to be elected in a direct election, into the next House’s plenary session to be deliberated into a new law. The question is, who will compete in the Jakarta’s gubernatorial election that will be held this year on Nov. 27?
