Bamsoet’s Maneuver: Amending the Constitution
Bambang Soesatyo a.k.a Bamsoet, the speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), the highest legislative body in Indonesia, is in a political safari along with the other leaders of the MPR to meet with a number of political figures to discuss the plan of amending the 1945 Constitution. The amendment is, among others, aiming to possibly reinstate the MPR’s authority to elect President and Vice President (VP).

There has been a lot of criticisms on the performance of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) during the second term of the outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. The current leaders of the KPK will soon end their term this year, and the selection committee to find the new KPK leaders for 2024-2029 period has been established.
