The City of Bandung was once the gem of West Java, so much so that the Dutch colonizers dubbed the city Paris Van Java (Paris in Java). The lush green spanning across the undulating landscape of the city was indeed a feast for the eyes. But we’re talking decades ago. Today’s Bandung is a city of gridlock, floods, and garbage. Goodbye Paris Van Java, hello Peril Van Java. But things are gradually changing, especially after the appointment of Berkeley University graduate, Mochamad Ridwan Kamil, as the city’s Mayor. Like the Governor of Jakarta Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Ridwan Kamil or Kang Emil as he is commonly called by the people of Bandung, has his own unique way of serving his public.
