If all goes to plan, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry will implement the paid plastic bags initiative in five days, or by February 21. The initiative is a part of “The Declaration Toward Indonesia Waste Free 2020”. It will be launched on the National Waste Care Day in 17 cities across Indonesia. But the Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo) have suggested to price a plastic bag at Rp 200,00, which is lower than the price suggested by the Ministry. People are now questioning whether the retailers are committed to this initiative at all.
