The United States’ latest COVID-19 surge suggests that the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes the disease COVID-19) is indeed highly contagious. News outlets reported that over 70 percent of recently sequenced cases in the States were Omicron, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data showed on Monday.
