Nurul Ghufron, deputy chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), submitted a judicial review in November 2022 and questioned the constitutionality of the norms in the provisions of Art. 29 letter e and the provisions of Art. 34 in Law No. 19/2019 which amended Law No. 30/2002 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission. This provision limits the age range of the KPK leaders in the election process. Away from the scrutiny of the media, on May 25, 2023, this petition was granted by the Constitutional Court and caused quite a stir. According to some parties, this decision is politically charged. The Constitutional Court is considered to have rendered a decision beyond its authority, especially if this decision is to be applied retroactively. Now, the final decision rests with the Government.
