Nickel smelter construction projects in the country have begun to receive credit from banks, mainly state-owned banks. So far, Chinese companies have dominated smelter projects, such as Tsingshan Group in Halmahera and Morowali, and Bintang Delapan in Central Sulawesi. Local-owned nickel smelter projects are owned only by a state-owned company, i.e., PT Aneka Tambang Tbk in Pomalaa, with 27,000 metric tons per year, and the East Halmahera Ferronickel project (FeNi Haltim) with a capacity of 13,000 (not yet commercially operational).
