Challenging Times for Ahok And Other Aspiring Independent Candidates

Supporters of the Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama associated in the so-called Teman Ahok are planning to submit a judicial review request to the Constitutional Court (MK) against the new-and-revised regional election law. The judicial review request will likely focus on the new provisions regarding the verification of identity cards and endorsement letters for independent candidates. The question is whether or not the MK will accept the judicial review request, and if yes, whether or not the MK can reach a verdict in time, before the KPU has to decide on the fate of independent regional head candidates.To subscribe please click here
