Gerindra, the second largest political party in Jakarta, has reportedly decided to endorse retired Army general Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as their governor candidate to challenge the incumbent Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who will enter next year’s gubernatorial election as an independent candidate. On the other hand, Golkar has sent a strong signal of possibly endorsing Ahok in the race. The largest political party PDI-P, meanwhile, is still searching for their candidate, but there’s still the possibility that the Party would eventually support to Ahok.
