As previously noted, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) will need more than the backing of his Democratic Party to pass his direct local elections government regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) at the House of Representatives (DPR). With only 61 seats at the 2014-2019 DPR (10.9%), the Democratic Party would have to form new alliances, one envisioned is an alliance with Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s ruling coalition of PDI-P, PKB, Hanura, and Nasdem.
