It was a packed session. We arrived early and was lucky to get a seat. The hearing commenced a few minutes behind schedule but that didn’t seem to be a problem. All eight Constitutional Court judges were present and they wasted no time with their delivery. The Chief Justice, Hamdan Zoelva, opened the session and confirmed the attendance of the petitioners. It was a bulk session whereby the panel of judges was scheduled to read decisions on a number of cases — both judicial reviews and election disputes. Luckily for us, the Court’s decision on the judicial review of Presidential Election Law No. 42/2008 filed by Effendi Gazali was first in line.
