After years of talk, and almost one decade of control by Bakrie Group’s Bumi Resources Minerals (BRMS), we might eventually see construction of lead/zinc smelter of PT Dairi Prima Mineral (DPM) in North Sumatra province. BRMS informed market participants late last week that terms and conditions of the divestment of shares in DPM to Chia Non-Ferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co Ltd (NFC) had been met by both parties.

Revisiting Bakrie Group – China

Bumi Resources Minerals (BRMS), controlled by Bakrie Group, claimed that it has on April 13, 2018 been informed by the board of Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co Ltd (NFC) that NFC agreed to acquire 51% shares of PT Dairi Prima Mineral (DPM), which develops zinc/lead mine in North Sumatra, for US$198.9 million or an enterprise value of US$390 million.

Walk the Talk: Bakrie’s Dairi Lead-Zinc

We’ve been talking about PT Dairi Prima Mineral’s lead-zinc project for nearly one decade now. In the period, zinc price has collapsed from nearly US$4,000 per ton in 2007 to nearly US$1,000 per ton in 2009. Today, the commodity is traded above US$3,000 per ton. Lead, meanwhile, moved in somewhat similar direction.
