The New Kasal & Jokowi’s Consolidation in the Military
Today (May 23), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is to take the oath of Vice Admiral Siwi Sukma Adji as the new Navy Chief of Staff (Kasal) to replace Admiral Ade Supandi. The inauguration ceremony will take place at the State Palace in Jakarta.

The Navy Chief of Staff (Kasal) Admiral Ade Supandi, who will soon retire, visited the State Palace Jakarta on Thursday (Apr. 19) to meet with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Ade didn’t deny the speculation that he discussed the matter of his succession with the President. And considering the current Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) General Mulyono and the Commander of the Army’s Strategic Reserves Command (Pangkostrad) Lt. Gen. Agus Kriswanto will retire in the future as well, will we see the appointment of the new Kasal, the new Kasad, and the new Pangkostrad done simultaneously?

The Navy Chief of Staff (Kasal) Admiral Ade Supandi, who will soon retire, recently introduced the five admirals, one of whom he believes could be his successor. He made the introduction on Friday, Jan. 27 after a meeting with Navy commanders. Ade told reporters that he was ready to hand over his leadership before his retirement in May 2018. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a lunch meeting on Thursday (Dec. 14) with the new Military (TNI) Commander Air Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto at the Bogor Presidential Palace. The Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) General Mulyono and the Navy Chief of Staff (KSAL) Admiral Ade Supandi were also present in said meeting.
