Global stock markets mostly ended lower on Thursday (Sept. 16), with the Dow Jones retreating as investors continue to weigh uncertainty over the pace of the economic recovery and the next steps of the Federal Reserve (Fed). Fresh data showed United States (US) retail sales unexpectedly increased in August, but July’s reading was revised to show a 1.8% decline. Also, initial jobless claims increased slightly more than anticipated. Traders now await the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) decision next week for further details on when the Fed will start tapering.
