Global stock markets closed mostly higher on Wednesday (September 1), with United States (US) stocks closing mixed. The Dow Jones closed down 0.1% yesterday. The S&P 500 finished near the flatline while the Nasdaq was up 0.3% to another all-time high as a strong Institute of Supply Management (ISM) Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) number was not enough to offset a disappointing ADP report. Private businesses in the US hired 374 thousand workers in August 2021, well below market expectations of a 613 thousand rise. Now investors are waiting for highly-anticipated payrolls numbers on Friday.
