Gold miner Merdeka Copper Gold (MDKA) suffered a loss of US$6.34 million in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, against a profit of US$14.1 million in the same period of 2020 as revenue dropped 55.7% year on year (y/y) to US$46.5 million. It booked an operating loss of US$8.88 million in the said period, against US$29.39 million profit a previous year. MDKA recorded an income tax benefit of US$2.38 million, while in Q1 of 2020, it recorded income tax expenses of US$10.78 million.
